An Alexandria man was charged Monday in connection with a fatal crash that killed an 8-year-old boy on Sunday afternoon.

Police charged Victor M. Aldana, 22, with manslaughter and maiming while driving under the influence, reckless driving and no operator’s license.

Officials identified the victim of the crash as Brian Hernandez-Chavez of the Lincolnia area.

The crash occurred around 2:28 p.m. on Sunday. Police said Mr. Aldana was driving a 1994 Honda Accord westbound on Duke Street approaching the overpass to Interstate 395, when his car jumped a curb ran and struck the 8-year-old and his 31 year-old mother.


The car continued down an embankment, struck a traffic control box and came to rest against a guard rail along the northbound lanes of I-395. The mother was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Mr. Aldana, of 4945 Manitoba Drive in the Alexandria part of Fairfax County, is being held at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center without bond.
