LYTHAM ST. ANNES, ENGLAND (AP) - Luke Donald goes into the second round of the British Open on Friday without his regular caddie.
Donald, the No. 1 player in the world still seeking his first major, said on Twitter that he had given caddie John McLaren the day off so he could “welcome his 1st child into the world” with wife Helen.
Gareth Lord, the caddie for Robert Karlsson, will be on the bag at Royal Lytham & St. Annes as Donald tries to improve on his even-par 70.
Lord also filled in for McLaren last year at Disney, where Donald made six straight birdies on the back nine and closed with a 64 to win, making him the first player to capture the money title on the PGA and European Tour in the same season.
