Terps picked last in Atlantic Division

Maryland received one of the more predictable slights for a team coming off a 10-loss season: a last-place prognostication in a preseason media poll.

The Terps were picked last in the ACC Atlantic Division. It’s only the fourth time since voting began in 1976 the team polled last.

The 1998 and 1999 teams eventually tied for the basement in what was then a nine-team league with no divisions.

The 2010 team wound up going 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the ACC, a year after a 2-10 season.

Florida State was picked to win the conference, while Virginia Tech received 83 of 95 first-place votes in the Coastal Division. Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins (25 votes) edged Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas (21) as the league’s preseason player of the year.
