By The Numbers: Netflix subscribers

On Tuesday, Netflix reported a 91 percent reduction in second-quarter earnings amid a slowdown in subscriber growth. Netflix Inc. added 1.1 million worldwide subscribers to its streaming service _ in line with management predictions, but below what analysts had hoped for.

Here’s a breakdown of Netflix’s subscribers as of June 30:

Streaming:

_ 23.9 million in U.S., gain of 528,000 during the second quarter

_ 3.6 million outside the U.S., gain of 559,000

_ 27.6 million total, gain of 1.1 million

DVD:

_ 9.2 million in U.S., loss of 849,000. DVD service is not available in other countries.

Combined (some U.S. customers have both plans and are counted once in combined figure):

_ 26.5 million in U.S., gain of 420,000

_ 30.1 million worldwide, gain of 979,000

Forecast for the quarter through September:

Streaming:

_ 24.9 million to 25.7 million in U.S.

_ 3.9 million to 4.4 million outside U.S.
