D.C. ethics - isn't that an oxymoron? ("Gray nominates 3 to ethics board," Web, June 5) Mayor Vincent C. Gray presented his panel of "experts" to "act as watchdogs and safeguards for the District's public trust." I had to put on my hip waders to continue reading this article.
The last thing we need are attorneys watching other attorneys spend taxpayer dollars. Washington needs three regular American citizens making sure that the investigators are part of the solution and not part of the problem. The city needs investigators who will rip up the carpet and tear down the walls to uproot corruption and waste. Actually, they could spend a full year in the Wilson Building going floor to floor, watching the rats run for cover. Is there public proof positive that the appointees to this committee are not as tainted as the ones they are charged to investigate? We have seen this happen time after time.
Based on the scandals already seen in the Gray administration, I have every reason to doubt the mayor's sincerity in putting the hammer down. Frankly, I would never trust the new ethics board.
