Mayor Vincent C. Gray took steps toward fulfilling his promise to name a park after go-go legend Chuck Brown on Tuesday.

His bill, now before the council, proposes changing the name of a western section of Langdon Park between 18th and 20th streets in Northeast.

Mr. Gray said in a statement that “Chuck Brown Park” would be “a park where Chuck´s music can be played and where people can enjoy themselves — as they always did while listening to Chuck Brown perform.”

The mayor first announced the concept at Brown’s funeral nearly four weeks ago.

Brown, 75 at his death, is hailed as the “Godfather of Go-Go,” and was a staple of the Washington music scene throughout his life.
