WARSAW, POLAND (AP) - Spain beat Portugal 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Wednesday to reach the final of Euro 2012. The match ended 0-0 after extra-time. The Spanish will now play the winner of Germany vs. Italy. Here’s the best of today’s action. All times are Polish.

___

2334: The Spanish are shaking hands and hugging supporters as they leave the Donetsk pitch as very relieved players. Portugal can count themselves unlucky. They were ground down rather than throughly beaten by a Spanish team that played with little ambition and even less energy. Del Bosque is going to have to do a lot if Spain is to beat Germany or Italy.

___

2330: Bruno Alves’s miss for Portugal was the crucial one. His shot rebounded off the bar and Cesc Fabregas followed with a perfectly placed penalty that bounced off the inside of the post and in to give Spain a rather fortunate victory. Both sides missed their first penalty.

___

2313: IT WILL BE SETTLED BY PENALTIES! At the end of extra-time, it’s Portugal 0, Spain 0.

___

2312: PhillipsIan: Tonight’s winner? Germany … Unless Italy springs a surprise, can’t see either of these teams beating Germany in a Euro 2012 final. (via Twitter).

___

2308: From AP’s simonhaydon: Ronaldo did an excellent impression of the dying swan as he hit the ground, apparently unconscious. Ten seconds later he’s up and about. Fabregas then breaks through but can’t finish. Four minutes left.

___

2306: Jesus Navas fires at the goalkeeper from 12 yards. Rui Patricio gets a hand to it and it rebounds off Pepe. Spanish players go nuts looking for a free kick for a passback but they’re wrong and we meander on gently towards penalties. Then, a yellow for Alonso for a late challenge on Real Madrid teammate Ronaldo.
