D.C. man shot by robbers stealing cell phone, sneakers

A man was shot in the arm Thursday night in Northwest D.C. while struggling with two robbers who stole his sneakers, cell phone and cash, according to police.

The robbery took place in the Pleasant Plains neighborhood around 10 p.m.

Two men armed with handguns approached a man in the 700 block of Columbia Road Northwest and demanded money, Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Officer Araz Alali said.

“A struggle ensued causing the complainant to fall to the ground,” at which point one of the robbers shot him, Officer Alali said.

The two men snatched $60, a cell phone, and the man’s Nike Air Jordan sneakers before fleeing the area.

The man who was robbed was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening, Officer Alali said.

Police are still searching for the two men responsible for the robbery.
