Philip Joseph Gilberti more >Montgomery County police have identified a possible suspect in Tuesday’s fatal shooting of a woman in Kensington.
Authorities are seeking the whereabouts of 51-year-old Philip Joseph Gilberti but would not elaborate on his relationship to the woman killed.
The shooting occurred close to 9:40 a.m. as a man and woman apparently struggled inside a van on southbound Connecticut Avenue near Knowles Avenue, Montgomery County police officials said.
“Witnesses heard a shot inside the van and observed him push the woman out outside the vehicle,” county police spokeswoman officer Rebecca Innocenti said.
The man then drove off in the van. Witnesses said no one else was in the van with him, according to police.
Several witnesses provided first aid to the woman, but she died at the scene, Officer Innocenti said. Her identity has not been released.
Officers continued their investigation at a home in nearby Aspen Hill, but would not say whether the home was related to either Mr. Gilberti or the victim in the shooting.
Police believe the man and woman knew each other and do not think the shooting was random.
