PARIS (AP) - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will lead France in next week’s Davis Cup quarterfinal against the United States.
The sixth-ranked Tsonga was nominated on Tuesday by France captain Guy Forget, along with No. 14 Gael Monfils, Julien Benneteau and Michael Llodra.
“I chose the same players who beat Canada (4-1) in Vancouver in the first round,” Forget said. “It will be an extremely difficult match against the United States. They are at a much higher level than the Canadians.”
The quarterfinal will be played on clay at the Monte Carlo Country Club in Monaco from April 6-8.
“You rarely get these kind of training conditions in Davis Cup,” Forget said. “There are so many courts to train on. It’s a luxury.”
Forget said he would likely call up Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin as hitting partners.
