D.C. police officers fatally shot a man who fired on officers Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting was reported around 2:20 p.m. in the 800 block of 51st Street in Southeast after police responded to a report of a drug complaint.

A man at the scene fired at the officers, who fired back. The man was struck and was taken to a local hospital where he died, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officer Paul Metcalf, a police spokesman, said no officers were injured during the encounter, though he could not say how many officers were involved.

Police identified the shooting victim as Kevin Bolden, 19, of Southeast.
