St. Louis coach Majerus hospitalized before game

PITTSBURGH (AP) - St. Louis coach Rick Majerus is being hospitalized overnight Saturday for precautionary reasons after he missed the Billikens’ 75-60 win over Duquesne earlier that day.

The school said the 64-year-old Majerus took the wrong medication after his routine morning swim. Majerus, who has a history of heart surgeries dating back to 1989, had a stent inserted last summer.

Majerus traveled to the Palumbo Center with the team about 90 minutes before the game, but doctors encouraged him to check into a hospital for evaluation. Although he was originally expected to travel home with the team later Saturday, it was later decided he would spend the night for observation.

Assistant Chris Harriman took over the coaching duties for the Billikens (24-6, 12-4). Harriman said he spoke to Majerus after the game and he was “doing fine.”
