NEW YORK (AP) - A person with knowledge of the award says New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler has been voted the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year.
Yahoo Sports first reported Chandler's victory.
The person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the official announcement was to come from the NBA. The award will be announced on Wednesday.
Chandler made an immediate impact on the Knicks, previously one of the league's worst defensive teams, in his first season after helping Dallas win the NBA title last season. New York trails Miami 2-0 in its first-round playoff series.
