A 47-year-old man was found fatally shot inside a parked car Wednesday night in the Mount Vernon area in Fairfax County.
The man’s name has not been released as police are still trying to contact his next of kin, said Bud Walker, a Fairfax County police spokesman.
Officers responded to the intersection of San Leandro and Mendocino places for a noise complaint. Inside a sedan parked in the area, officers found the man sitting in the driver’s side seat suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. He died at a local hospital.
The revving of the car’s engine, rather than the sound of gunshots, was the genesis of the noise complaint, Officer Walker said.
Police could not confirm Thursday whether the man was from the area or whether the vehicle he was found inside belonged to him.
