Sen. Dianne Feinstein, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Sunday that President Obama was right to accept the resignation of CIA Director David Petraeus, who stepped down Friday after admitting to an extramarital affair.
When news of the resignation broke Friday, the California Democrat said she “wished President Obama had not accepted this resignation,” but as two days of revelations about the affair have surfaced in the press, she said Sunday that she understood why the country’s most respected military man had to step down.
“I do think [Mr. Petraeus] did the right thing,” she said on “Fox News Sunday.” “I think the president had no choice but to accept the resignation.”
She said she had no concerns that the resignation is connected to the Sept. 11 terror attacks in Libya that claimed the lives of four Americans, which the intelligence committees in both the Senate and the House are looking into.
She said her committee may still ask Mr. Petraeus to appear before its members to answer questions.
