A 58-year-old Falls Church woman on a bicycle was killed Monday afternoon when she was struck by a truck while crossing Columbia Pike.
Elizabeth P. Shattuck, of 3216 Patrick Henry Drive, was riding a bicycle southbound across Columbia Pike near the intersection with Ashwood Place, Fairfax County police said. At around 2:07 p.m., a 72-year-old man driving a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck westbound struck Ms. Shattuck’s bicycle. She hit the truck’s hood and went over the roof, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck’s driver stayed on the scene as police began investigating.
Police said that speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. The intersection has no crosswalk.
