Two men were shot overnight in the District, one in a home invasion in the Trinidad neighborhood and another outside of a school near the Anacostia Metro station, according to police.
The shooting in Trinidad, in Northeast D.C., occurred around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday after two men broke into an apartment in the 1600 block of West Virginia Avenue, a Metropolitan Police Department spokesman said.
Four people were home at the time and reported to police that two men kicked in the front door of the apartment. Once inside they demanded property but shot one of the apartment residents in the stomach and left without taking anything, MPD spokesman Officer Araz Alali said.
The burglars were inside the home for less than five minutes. It was unclear what led to the shooting.
The man who was shot was taken to a hospital and in stable condition on Wednesday, Officer Alali said.
A second shooting was reported at 9:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of Shannon Place Southeast. One man reported that he was in front of A. Kiger Savoy School, near the Anacostia Metro station, when he heard five gunshots and then realized that he had been shot in the leg, Officer Alali said.
Someone dropped the man off at a nearby hospital where he was treated and deemed to be in stable condition.
