A woman and her sister-in-law were killed early Friday in Fairfax County when the car they were riding in ran off of Interstate 66 and struck a tree.
Virginia State Police said the cause of the crash appeared to be driver fatigue and that charges could potentially be filed against the driver — Clarence R. Waller, 53, of Chester, Penn.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. as the vehicle traveled westbound on I-66 near the ramp to Route 286, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said.
The women killed in the crash were identified as Mr. Waller’s wife, Shyrel Scott-Waller, 53, of Chester, Penn., and his sister, Juanita Ann Waller, 54, of Lanham. Both women died at the scene. Mr. Waller suffered minor injuries and was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital.
Alcohol was ruled out as a factor in the wreck, police said. Investigators were still looking into the role that fatigue might have played in the fatal crash.
