Prince George's County police on Monday revealed they are looking for a second suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred during a drug deal at a Seat Pleasant gas station.
Joshua Jermaine Benton, 23, of Washington, D.C. is wanted in connection with the Nov. 16 slaying of 31-year-old Sharod Darnell James.
Police on Monday released photos of Mr. Benton, including an image of a distinctive tattoo on his forearm, but cautioned that he has a twin brother who is not associated with the crime. Law enforcement sources said the twin brother was in jail at the time of the shooting.
Officers found James suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside of a gas station, located at 5601 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway.
Another man, 24-year-old Mahdi Lawson, of Upper Marlboro, has already been charged with second-degree murder in connection with James‘ death. Court documents filed in Mr. Lawson’s case state that he admitted to calling James “for a narcotic transaction and meeting him at the gas station during the time of the shooting.” The documents do not indicate whether or not he admitted to the shooting.
Surveillance video shows both Mr. Benton and Mr. Lawson at the gas station around the time of the shooting, law enforcement sources said.
