While visitors to George Washington’s Mount Vernon may be impressed with the level of luxury our first president and his family enjoyed, if George Washington could visit the homes at nearby Riverwood at Ferry Point, he might just be impressed himself.

The homes at Riverwood, under development by NVHomes, share the same view of the Potomac River as Mount Vernon, but they also feature elegant modern amenities.

The homes rest on half-acre sites. Residents can enjoy nearby yacht clubs and marinas, golf courses, horseback riding, parks and proximity to Old Town Alexandria’s myriad shops, restaurants, entertainment venues and historic sites. Standard features include a brick front, a brick stoop and a side-entry two-car garage. Inside, the homes have hardwood flooring in the foyer, hallway, powder room, kitchen and morning room; ceramic tile flooring in the full baths; oak stairs with wooden balusters; and gourmet kitchens with stainless steel appliances and 42-inch maple cabinets.

The homes can be expanded with conservatories, sunrooms, morning rooms, an office/art studio adjacent to the kitchen, a covered porch, bay windows, room extensions, and a finished lower level with a recreation room, a media room, a home office, a full bath and a wet bar.

The Clifton Park model, with 4,576 square feet, is priced from $1,189,990. This model features a dramatic two-story foyer with a central waterfall-style staircase to the upper level. A second staircase to both the upper and lower levels is accessible from the main hall and the kitchen.

At the front of this model on either side of the foyer are the formal living room and formal dining room. These rooms are defined by columns that separate the spaces yet allow for an open view through the home.

At the back of the house, the two-story family room features columns and a gas fireplace and can be accessorized with a coffered ceiling and a built-in entertainment center. Columns separate the family room from the open breakfast area and center-island kitchen, which has a walk-in pantry and a butler’s pantry.

On the opposite side of the family room is a corner study with an adjacent powder room.

Upstairs, the master suite, a step down from the rest of this level, has a double-door entrance into a bedroom with a tray ceiling. The master bath includes a linen closet, a soaking tub, a separate shower and two vanities. Just beyond the bath is a bedroom-size walk-in closet.

Each of the three additional bedrooms has a walk-in closet and a private full bath.
