NAVY (2-3) at CENTRAL MICHIGAN (2-3)

When: Friday, 8PM

Where: Kelly-Shorts Stadium, Mount Pleasant, Mich.

TV/radio: ESPN2, 1500 AM, 1050 AM

Outlook: Navy leads series 2-0 and won last meeting 38-37 in Annapolis in 2010. The Midshipmen will attempt to get back to .500 after last week’s stirring overtime victory at Air Force. Freshman Nick Sloan is one of nine kickers nationally to be perfect on field goals this season with a minimum of five attempts. Chippewas wideout Cody Wilson has three consecutive 100-yard receiving days but has yet to score a touchdown this season. Navy is 15-9 all-time against current members of the Mid-American Conference, including 8-2 during the Paul Johnson/Ken Niumatalolo triple-option era (since 2002).

The problems were especially acute last week, when Virginia Tech surrendered 48 points in a loss to North Carolina. Meanwhile, Duke can secure bowl eligibility for the first time since 1994 with a victory. Quarterback Sean Renfree, who missed last week’s rout of Virginia because of injury, is expected to return for the Blue Devils. In eight games between the teams since Virginia Tech joined the ACC in 2004, Duke has scored 77 points.
