Outlook: Maryland leads series 42-32-2, though Virginia won last year’s meeting in College Park 31-13. The Terrapins are seeking their first 2-0 start in conference play and might have found an ideal opponent. The Cavaliers have lost four straight, and their quarterback switch did not work in last week’s loss to Duke. Alabama transfer Phillip Sims completed only 21 of 42 passes for 268 yards and two interceptions in the loss. Maryland senior Joe Vellano is tied for second in the ACC with eight tackles for loss and with 26 in his career needs one more to tie for 10th in school history. The road team has won five of the last six games in the series.
