SOUTH BEND, IND. (AP) - Tommy Rees will start at quarterback for No. 5 Notre Dame against Brigham Young after Everett Golson sustained a concussion late in the game against Stanford.
Rees started one other game for the Irish this season, but only in a cameo role after Golson was benched for the first three plays against Miami after failing to let Irish coaches know he would be late for a meeting. Rees started 16 games the past two seasons, but Golson won the job when coach Brian Kelly opened the job for competition because Rees had 19 turnovers last season.
Rees has helped rally Notre Dame to three wins this season.
Kelly said Thursday that if he switched starters it would be for health reasons only and Golson would remain the long-term starter.
