Netflix cut its prediction of how many video streaming subscribers it would add this year after its third-quarter additions of 1.2 million came in at the low end of the company's forecasts. Here's a breakdown of Netflix's subscribers as of Sept. 30 and details on its forecast:
Streaming:
_ 25.1 million in U.S., gain of 1.16 million during the third quarter
_ 4.3 million outside the U.S., gain of 687,000
_ 29.4 million total, gain of 1.85 million
DVD:
_ 8.6 million in U.S., loss of 634,000. DVD service is not available in other countries.
Combined (some U.S. customers have both plans and are counted once in combined figure):
_ 27.5 million in U.S., gain of 1.01 million
_ 31.8 million worldwide, gain of 1.7 million
Forecast for the quarter through December:
Streaming:
_ 26.4 million to 27.1 million in U.S.
_ 5.2 million to 5.9 million outside U.S.
DVD:
_ 7.85 million to 8.15 million in U.S.
