A man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a D.C. woman inside a Glenarden apartment was arrested Thursday in Alexandria, police said.

Michael Deangelo Briscoe of Landover is being charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of 26-year-old Shariel McCutchen.

Prince George's County police responded to a report of gunshots early Sunday at the Glenarden Apartments complex, in the 8400 block of Hamlin Street, and found McCutchen dead inside an apartment.

Another woman, with whom Mr. Briscoe had a relationship, lived at the apartment. Sources with knowledge of the case said McCutchen forced her way into the apartment and got into a physical altercation with that woman. At some point during the interaction, Mr. Briscoe shot McCutchen multiple times. The other woman was not injured and fled the scene to call for help, police said.

Police initially called the killing a domestic dispute but did not clarify the nature of McCutchen's relationship to Mr. Briscoe.

According to online court records, Mr. Briscoe is currently facing charges for carrying a handgun with an obliterated serial number. He was indicted on those charges in July and was released after posting a $10,000 bond.

A public defender representing Mr. Briscoe in that case could not say whether he would also represent his client on the murder charge.
