Hurricane Sandy is already changing plans for both presidential campaigns, who canceled events across the eastern seaboard ahead of the massive storm’s landfall this weekend.
Mitt Romney’s spokesman said he’s canceled a Sunday evening rally in Virginia Beach, while first lady Michelle Obama has nixed a speech at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H., on Tuesday. The school’s campus will be closed Monday and Tuesday in anticipation of disruptions from the storm.
Mr. Romney has two other events scheduled for Virginia earlier in the day Sunday in Richmond and Sterling, which the campaign could cancel depending on the weather.
The massive storm is expected to begin affecting the Washington area by Sunday evening, and rain and winds could last up to two days, according to forecasts. Some prognosticators have already warned that power outages could last through Election Day on Nov. 6, which they said could disrupt some electronic voting machines.
