Redskins sign long snapper Justin Snow; Nick Sundberg is put on IR

The Washington Redskins signed long snapper Justin Snow to replace Nick Sundberg, who was put on injured reserve with a broken left arm. Snow was signed Tuesday after a workout at Redskins Park. He spent the past 12 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.

Sundberg broke his left arm in the first half of Sunday’s 40-32 win over the New Orleans Saints. He remained in the game and continued to snap on punts and field goals, but has since been fitted with a balky cast that makes it impossible to snap the ball.

The Redskins also signed fullback Eric Kettani (Navy) and running back Javarris Williams to their practice squad and released running back Antwon Bailey, fullback Robert Hughes and defensive lineman Jason Shirley from the practice squad.

Thousands mourn Modell

BALTIMORE — Thousands of family and friends turned out Tuesday for the funeral of former Browns and Ravens owner Art Modell, including current and former players, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

An integra figure in the development of the league, Modell also was one of the NFL’s most polarizing owners. Cleveland fans never forgave him from moving his club to Baltimore for financial reasons after the 1995 season, but Ravens fans were fond of him and Modell also was remembered as a loving family man.

Ray Lewis, Ray Rice, Joe Flacco, Haloti Ngata and Torrey Smith were among current Ravens who attended the service.

STEELERS: Four-time Pro Bowl linebacker may play in Sunday’s home opener against the New York Jets. Harrison sat out the preseason while nursing a left knee injury. He had surgery on the knee last month and didn’t play in Sunday night’s loss at Denver. The Steelers expect to have safety Ryan Clark back. Clark sat out the Broncos game as a precaution because of a sickle cell trait that makes it dangerous to exert himself at high altitude.

BRONCOS: Former Pro Bowl center Dan Koppen, who spent nine season snapping the ball to Tom Brady in New England, will now have the chance to work with Peyton Manning. Koppen signed with Denver on Tuesday, two weeks after his release from the New England Patriots.
