D.C. police identify 2 homicide victims
D.C. police have identified two men killed Thursday in separate slayings in Northeast.
R’artagnon White, 38, was found fatally shot inside his home in the 5100 block of 7th Street Northeast around 1 p.m. He had been shot in the back of the head, Metropolitan Police Department officials said.
Officials are still investigating possible motives in the killing, including robbery, but Lt. Alder said detectives have not been able to exclude many possibilities at this point. However the fact there was no forced entry to the home could be an indication that Mr. White knew his attacker, Lt. Alder said.
The second man killed Thursday was identified as 49-year-old Paul Lawrence Morris. He was fatally stabbed Thursday evening during a fight with a woman who has since been charged in his death, Lt. Alder said.
“There are differing accounts over what it starts over,” Lt. Alder said. “It just escalates from words into him striking her and her eventually striking him.”
Police found Mr. Morris suffering from multiple stab wounds in the 300 block of Bryant Street Northeast, in the Edgewood neighborhood, around 6:20 p.m. He was taken to a hospital where he died.
Quindetta Cosby, 49, was taken into custody from the scene of the stabbing and charged in the death that night, Lt. Alder said. Though a department spokeswoman initially said the death was domestic in nature, Lt. Alder clarified that the two people were only acquaintances.
The two deaths bring the total number of slayings in the District to 60 criminal homicides this year.
