STORRS, CONN. (AP) - Connecticut starting defensive end Jesse Joseph has a torn left Achilles tendon and will miss the remainder of the football season.
UConn coach Paul Pasqualoni says the Huskies will apply for a medical redshirt for Joseph, which could allow the senior another year of eligibility.
Joseph was injured in UConn’s 24-21 win at Maryland on Saturday. He had recorded 12 tackles and a sack this season for UConn’s defense, which has given up an average of just 174 yards per game,
The news came a week after UConn (2-1) lost backup defensive end Teddy Jennings for the season with a left knee injury.
Pasqualoni says if the NCAA approves an extra season, he hopes to have Joseph back in time for the start of next summer’s preseason camp.
