Lady Gaga: Pop star tweets after ‘slut’ remark

- Associated Press - Friday, September 28, 2012

NEW YORK — Lady Gaga has indirectly responded to a New York City politician who called her a "slut."

In a message on her Twitter page, the pop star didn't mention Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro. Instead, the Staten Island Advance (http://bit.ly/SodrGL) says, she thanked his Manhattan counterpart, Scott Stringer, for speaking out in her defense.

She told Stringer "You show political integrity + a modern vernacular."

Molinaro made the remark Monday during an anti-substance abuse event. He pointed to photos of the singer lighting what appears to be a marijuana cigarettes at an Amsterdam concert last week.

Stringer defended Gaga in an interview with the New York Observer's Politicker website. He said Lady Gaga "is a social justice activist and a real leader for marriage equality in this country."
