EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Approaching thunderstorms caused the start of the second half of the game between Southern California and Syracuse at MetLife Stadium on Saturday to be delayed.
The teams briefly came out to start warming up for the second half, but were sent back well before the rain started.
No. 2 USC was leading 14-3.
An announcement was made over the stadium public address system and posted on the scoreboard, urging fans to “leave the seating bowl area and take shelter inside the stadium because of lightning in the area.”
The game was expected to resume about 40 minutes after the storm passed.
Severe weather was all over the New York area Saturday, with reports of possible tornadoes touching down just over the Hudson River in Brooklyn and Queens.
