Taliban militants in Afghanistan seized nine aboard a civilian transport helicopter after it was forced to make an emergency landing in the eastern region of the country.
The craft was forced to land due to heavy winds and rain, The Associated Press reported. It touched down in Logar province, southeast of Kabul and near the Pakistan border, in an area controlled by the Taliban.
Azra district governor Hamidullah Hamid said all aboard the helicopter were civilians. He didn't know their nationalities, however, AP reported.
NATO reported on Sunday that a helicopter did make an emergency landing, but did not provide further details. NATO is currently trying to recover the craft and investigate the particulars of its landing, AP reported.
