A spokesman from China met Wednesday with ambassadors from the United States and North and South Koreas to express "serious concern" over the escalating tensions.
The meeting came as North Korea vowed to restart its nuclear facilities and blocked South Korean workers from accessing a shared industrial area, various media reported.
The Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei said the talks were aimed at calming the rhetoric and expressing China's hope that a peaceful resolution was possible, NBC reported.
Meanwhile, Russia is weighing in, too. A spokesman for that nation worried that human error or a technological glitch could lead to the Korea situation heading "out of control," the Russian news service Interfax reported on Wednesday.
