Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, who is pro-Palestinian, abruptly cancels Jewish stop

- The Washington Times - Friday, April 5, 2013

Roger Waters — the founder of Pink Floyd and a vocal Palestinian movement supporter — abruptly canceled a scheduled speaking event before a Jewish audience in New York City.

Mr. Waters, who favors boycotting Israeli businesses until the government halts it settlement building on disputed properties, pulled from the engagement without giving a reason, 92nd Street Y official said, in a report from The Jerusalem Post.

"We heard from Roger Waters that he is unable to appear at the event scheduled for April 30," a statement from the Jewish cultural institution located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan read on Thursday. "We will be issuing refunds to all ticket-holders."

Mr. Waters is largely credited as being the creative force of the band. He's an outspoken pro-Palestinian supporter and has been cited in past media reports as favoring sanctions against Israel, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Last month, for example, Mr. Waters told one Palestinian media outlet that the American media "was under instructions from somewhere not to report [criticism of Israel] to the American public, on what grounds I cannot guess," The Jerusalem Post reported.
