Cory Booker on Twitter high from primary win: ‘This is our victory’

- The Washington Times - Wednesday, August 14, 2013

Newark Mayor Cory Booker took home the special election win Tuesday, besting three more experienced politicians to become New Jersey's Democratic nominee in the upcoming U.S. Senate race.

His fallen contenders included U.S. Reps. Rush Holt and Frank Pallone, and state Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver. Now Mr. Booker faces Republican Steve Lonegan in an October special election. Mr. Lonegan is the former mayor of Bogota. The two are vying for the Senate seat vacated by Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who died on June 3.

By late Tuesday evening, Mr. Booker was already pulling about 75 percent of the vote, The Daily Mail reported. And around 9 p.m., he was already taking to Twitter to thank voters for the win.

"Honored to receive Dem nomination for #NJSen today. This is our victory — thank you. Please continue to run with me," he tweeted.

He also tweeted: "Thanks 2 all who worked/canvassed/called & spread the word 4 our campaign. "If u want to go fast go alone, is u want to go far, go together."

And one more, in response to a marriage proposal: "Can I counter your proposal with my own: Will u vote for me? RT @lily..trieu: Cory Booker will you marry me?"
