Supporters for San Diego Mayor Bob Filner are rallying at City Hall on Monday, a day after a signature-gathering campaign to qualify a recall vote got underway against the embattled Democrat.
The rally was organized via the Facebook page San Diegans for Mayor Bob Filner, which had 345 "likes" as of Monday afternoon. The event is officially called "Time to Heal, Forgive & Get Back to Moving City Forward With Mayor Filner."
Supporters of "America's Finest Mayor" argue that Mr. Filner is being denied his due process, the LaJolla Patch reported.
Filner opponents also have created a Facebook page, titled "Recall Bob Filner," which had 10,150 "likes" at the time of this report.
Sixteen women have publicly accused the mayor of sexual harassment, including three city employees. One of the municipal workers, Irene McCormack Jackson, has sued Mr. Filner and the city.
After apologizing for what he called "intimidating conduct" with women, the mayor voluntarily checked himself into a two-week treatment program. He defiantly has resisted numerous calls to resign.
