Police: Ore. man robs bank for $1 to get free health care in jail

- The Washington Times - Monday, August 26, 2013

A man robbed a bank in Clackamas, Ore., on Friday morning, but only asked for $1 before sitting down and waiting for police to take him away.

Tim Alsip, 50, gave the Bank of America teller a note that said, "This is a holdup. Give me a dollar," said Mark Nikolai with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

The man then took the dollar, sat down in the lobby and waited for police to arrive, a local TV station reported.

Officers said they have dealt with Mr. Alsip several times over the past week when he complained of dental problems. They said his stunt Friday was pulled probably as a way to go back to jail to receive free medical care.

"His behavior today is consistent with the behavior he has displayed over the last week," the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
