Even the conservative Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung urged caution, noting that Germany likely will follow Washington’s lead on any military response.

“Berlin, meanwhile, wants to be on the side of its allies this time, rather than on the sidelines as it was during the Libya response,” the paper said, “without direct military involvement, of course.”
