Bomb threat evacuates U.S. Consulate in Milan

- The Washington Times - Tuesday, August 6, 2013

Milan authorities say the city's U.S. Consulate was evacuated on Tuesday after receiving a letter with a bomb threat. One police officer said the letter was marked with a symbol frequently used by Italian anarchists, The Associated Press reported.

Officials were on scene, inspecting the building, AP reported. All workers were sent home, and members of the public were denied entry.

An Italian radio station shares office space with the consulate, and those workers were sent home, also, AP reported. An nearby subway station was cleared to allow for a brief investigation, and then reopened.

Italian media at first reported that suspicious luggage was discovered at the consulate. But police denied those reports, AP said.
