Washington politicians continue to distance themselves from the rest of America. Over and over again, their actions show that they see themselves as a ruling class, in many cases above the law.
Americans are finally starting to open their eyes and see the direction in which we're headed. With a debt that's becoming insurmountable and an impending budget that will inevitably add to that debt, politicians in Washington have time and again pushed off this looming crisis without getting to the root of the problem. When it comes to matters such as spending, Washington doesn't seem to have any desire to fix the problems its politicians create. These people seem to move ever further from the principles of the Constitution and disregard the fact that they are to govern on behalf of the American people.
I don't think one party is to blame for Washington's incoherency. Rather, I think it is an array of politicians that are becoming less accountable for their actions. A clear example of this is Obamacare. While many Americans are beginning to experience the ill effects of the legislation, some in Congress still insist that they and their staff remain exempt from the law.
The best option to halt the power grab of Washington politicians is the implementation of term limits. This would stop congressional politicians from spending decades in office and would effectively limit their individual power. Instead, politicians must learn to govern based on the powers granted to them in the Constitution. This would require them to concede their authority back where it belongs, with the American people.
