Ruth Graham, daughter to worldwide evangelical preacher Billy Graham, said of a recent visit with her father: He’s “at peace,” but his health has regressed to the point that he didn’t recognize her.

“He’s comfortable, and he seems to be at peace,” Ms. Graham said to a local Charlotte, N.C., television station.

At the same time, she said she had to tell him who she was, Newsmax reported.

“I told him who I was and I told him that I loved him, and he said he loved me,” she said, to the local station. “He indicated that he was uncomfortable so I said, ‘Daddy, are you I pain?’ And I said, ‘Does it bother you to hold my hand,’ and he said, ‘Wonderful.’ “

Mr. Graham celebrated his 95th birthday in November, but he has been in poor health for years. Most recently, he was hospitalized for a long-running respiratory issue. He’s been resting and recovering at home in Montreat, N.C., for weeks.

Ms. Graham said she frequently travels from her home in Virginia to visit with him — a six-hour drive.
