Vice President Joseph R. Biden met with “Silver Linings Playbook” star Bradley Cooper and director David Russell on Thursday to discuss mental illness.
Mr. Cooper plays a man with bipolar disorder in the movie, which has been nominated for an Oscar for best picture. He has been nominated for best actor, and Mr. Russell has been nominated for best director, The Hill reports.
Mr. Biden’s office tweeted Thursday: “VP Biden, Russell & Cooper agree on the importance of acceptance, understanding, and access to treatment for those with mental illness.”
The vice president has been looking at mental health issues as a part of his efforts to reduce gun violence.
Mr. Russell was on Capital Hill on Thursday to join a group of senators in unveiling a mental-health bill that would strengthen treatment options at the local level, The Hill reports. Mr. Cooper visited patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center when he was in Washington last week.
