Fox News Channel chief Roger Ailes gave an interview to The New Republic over the weekend, mostly to talk about the channel, the Republican Party and the Latino vote, but he also added in some staunch criticism of President Obama.
“The president likes to divide people into groups,” Mr. Ailes said during the phone interview. “He’s too busy getting the middle class to hate rich people, blacks to hate whites. He is busy trying to get everybody to hate each other.”
He added that it “has become an imperative for the conservative movement” for everyone to try to get along.
Mr. Ailes delved into Fox News Latino, where he said Latino values are largely echoed throughout the network.
“Hispanics who get on government programs are doing only a little better than they were in the old country,” he told The New Republic. “Fox News Latino will show people how opportunities exist, that whenever we are overregulated, or there is too much government, we lose freedom. We lose power. That is, historically, one hundred percent true.”
The Fox News chief also added that he supports a path to citizenship and dropping the term “illegal” when it comes to immigration. The Fox News Latino stylebook uses “undocumented immigrant,” The New Republic notes.
