Ex-Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez launches bid for Kerry’s Senate seat

Former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez announced a bid Tuesday for Secretary of State John F. Kerry’s vacated Senate seat in Massachusetts, according to various media reports.

Mr. Gomez, a Republican, still needs to obtain the required 10,000 signatures to file as a candidate by Feb. 27, Politico reports. He will face state Rep. Daniel B. Winslow, a former Mitt Romney aide, in an April 30 primary, according to the report.

“As I look at Washington, I see a lot of unproductive noise and bickering, and I see two parties attacking each other at all times over every issue,” Mr. Gomez said in the Politico report. “I see gridlock, I see a partisan atmosphere where very few are willing to work together.”

The special election for Mr. Kerry’s seat is set for June 25.

The leading Democratic candidate is U.S. Rep. Edward J. Markey, who is funded and supported by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Politico reported.
