ABC News says the ribbon drive was headed by Rhode Island Democrat Rep. James Langevin — himself, a victim of an accidental gun shooting.
The silver tint on the green ribbons was aimed at specifically honoring the 20 children and staff members killed at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn., in December, said a report in The Blaze.
The ribbons came from Newtown Action Alliance, a new gun-violence prevention group, The Blaze report continues.
Vice President Joseph R. Biden sported one; House Speaker John Boehner did not, The Blaze reported.
Some congressional members also wore orange pins with the message, “Stop Fighting, Start Fixing,” aimed at bringing a more bipartisan tone to Capitol Hill, according to ABC.
