** FILE ** Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairman Jon Leibowitz. (Associated Press) more >President Obama will name Edith Ramirez to head the Federal Trade Commission, according to breaking news reports.
Ms. Ramirez, known as an antitrust expert, first joined the FTC as a commissioner in 2010, Politico reports. She will replace Jon Leibowitz.
The White House did not say when she will be officially designated.
“Over the past few years, Ramirez has been instrumental in ensuring there is robust competition and innovation in the high-tech marketplace and has worked hard to protect the most vulnerable communities,” an unnamed White House official said, in Politico.
Her promotion leaves open one Democratic spot on the commission. The White House did not say in the Politico report who might fill that slot.
