Biden heads to Philly for roundtable on guns

After a brief jaunt overseas, Vice President Joseph R. Biden will head to Philadelphia, Pa., on Monday to hold a roundtable discussion on gun safety with law enforcement officials, according to the White House.

Mr. Biden has been President Obama’s point person on the issue since the shooting deaths of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in December. He will be joined by Democratic members of CongressSen. Bob Casey, Reps. Bob Brady, Chaka Fattah, and Allyson Schwartz, as well as Deputy Attorney General James Cole.

Last month, Mr. Biden held a similar roundtable in Richmond, Va., where he was joined by Sen. Tim Kaine, who was governor of the state during the 2007 Virginia Tech shootings, among others.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is a member of the gun control advocacy group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and Philadelphia Police Chief Charles Ramsey has worked with Mr. Biden’s gun violence task force that crafted proposals the administration is pushing for like bans on so-called assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines and background checks on all gun sales.pls post
