Man charged with raping two women at Springfield hotel

A Woodbridge man has been charged with two counts of rape after meeting two women at a Springfield hotel on New Year’s Day and sexually assaulting them at gunpoint.

Joshua T. Franklin, 24, arranged online to meet the two women, ages 18 and 25, at the Extended Stay Hotel located at 6800 Metropolitan Center Drive, Fairfax police said. Once at the hotel, Mr. Franklin took out a gun and sexually assaulted the women and ordered them to “engage in sex acts,” police said.

Police did not say how long the attack lasted but officers were called to the hotel after Mr. Franklin left the room and the women reported the incident. Mr. Franklin, of 14743 Alabama Avenue, now faces two counts of armed robbery and rape.

Police are investigating whether other similar cases reported in other jurisdictions may be related to Tuesday’s attacks but did not specify which incidents are under review.
