D.C. police ID body as missing Clarksburg man

A man found dead in a Northwest D.C. apartment building’s ventilation shaft Wednesday night was identified as a 23-year-old Clarksburg man who went missing early New Year's Day, according to D.C. police.

Michael Steven Poe was found dead in the ventilation shaft of a building at 1854 Biltmore Street Northwest, just blocks from the Adams Morgan bar where he was last seen alive with friends.

“How he got in is still under investigation,” Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Araz Alali said.

Police found Mr. Poe Wednesday night after someone called to report an unconscious person, Officer Alali said.

Mr. Poe, of the 22900 block of Peach Tree Road, was reported missing after he split from a group of friends after going out on New Year's Eve and did not return home. The group had been at Shenanigans Bar in Adams Morgan, and friends last saw him there at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Montgomery County police said the last known contact he had with anyone was through a cell phone call around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

D.C. police have not yet released details about what caused Mr. Poe’s death.
