Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan interested in interviewing for head coaching job

Kyle Shanahan, the Washington Redskins' offensive coordinator, confirmed his desire Thursday to interview for vacant head coaching jobs when the season ends.

"Yeah, definitely," Shanahan said during his weekly press conference at Redskins Park. "I think every coach in the NFL ... that's all of our goals. Everybody wants an opportunity someday to be a head coach. I hope some day I get that opportunity."

In his third season overseeing the Redskins' offense, the 33-year-old Shanahan has used a variety of creative formations to help create the NFL's top-ranked rush offense.

Seven NFL head coaching jobs are open, but earlier this week Mike Shanahan said his son couldn't interview for another job during the season.

"I did read that I wasn't allowed to," Kyle Shanahan said to laughter. "I didn't know that until I read it."

Shanahan, who doesn't have an agent, said he hasn't been contacted by other teams, but he hasn't answered his phone in about six months and needed to the check voice mail. For now, his focus is on Sunday's wild card game against the Seattle Seahawks.

"It's been pretty easy to lock in," Shanahan said. "I look forward to having the opportunity after the season."
